Task 1: Brief

In project 1, students are required to design a suitable place to study as an architecture student that may be joined by 3 to 4 colleagues. For a good study environment there needs to be a number of essential tools, equipment, resource and above all space to work. Basic things for studying include:

  • Computing/internet resources (printers, scanners)
  • Furniture such as tables and chairs
  • Books
  • Selves for storage (books and folders)
  • Storage area for tools, models and drawings
  • Bathroom
  • Small kitchen/ dining area for people to eat bought or packed lunches (fridges, microwave)
  • Outdoor area for reading or writing or relaxing in general

Since our site is limited to zone C which is not very big and on an elevated surface I propose that the design should b at least 2 stories with a car park on the lower level. There are not many buildings on the east and west side the sun can be used to our advantage by sun roofs. There should be a large room with semi private study areas with a slightly elevated floor in the middle of the room with a big meeting/presentation table. On the 2nd floor it would be basically the library and sitting area. Toilet and kitchen area will be somewhere, where it is easily accessed from all directions. The outdoor area will be most likely on the east side since it is on higher ground and also near the community garden.
